HARLINGEN, TX—Patricia Lorraine Bowie Davis, beloved sister, mother, Nana, aunt, and friend joined the love of her life, parents, and the Lord on January 16, 2013.
Nana was born to Charles and Leona White (Bobbie) Bowie in Harlingen, Texas. She grew up in San Benito where she was blessed to start a lifelong friendship with Conney Casey Busa. She was a proud student of the San Benito School System where she enjoyed being a cheerleader and two-year All-State Band member playing the French horn. Upon graduation, she had the courage to travel far from a small town in South Texas to attend Mary Baldwin College in Virginia where she enjoyed an incredible learning experience and made wonderful friendships.
After graduation, she returned home, taught school, and met Dick Davis (“I Do”), with whom she married and had three loving sons.
She was a proud member of P.E.O. Chapter CW Sisterhood for which she twice served as President. She was also an active member of the Junior League of Harlingen where she served as President. She loved being involved in her sons’ activities including serving as a Cub Scout Den Mother and as President of the Parent Student Teacher Organization. She also actively contributed to the Harlingen community as an active fundraiser for the United Way, Riofest, and Gladys Porter Zoo/Zoofari..
She was also proud of her support of her husband and his passion to the legal profession that included her service as President of the Cameron County Bar Auxiliary Services.
Other than to her family, her most profound passion was to her church, the First Presbyterian Church of Harlingen, where she served as an elder. Throughout her adult life, she supported it fully with her prayers, gifts, presence, and service.
Her guilty pleasure was traveling the world with her loving husband, including adventures in the British Isles, Europe, Mediterranean, and even to China in 1980, and in which she then shared with her sons and daughters with trips to Scotland, the Danube, the Oberammergau Passion Play, Pinehurst, New York City, and the Greenbriar. She also loved spending time on South Padre Island with her family and friends.
This tribute would not be complete without mentioning her legendary game playing prowess. Whether it was her daily crossword ritual, strategically prevailing at Bridge with her friends or Trivial Pursuit and Poker with her sons and grandkids, she was a master who always played to win.
Of course, the true winners were everyone who had the fortune, pleasure, and privilege to receive her unconditional love and support. She was truly a special person who is now with God.
Nana is survived by her three sons and daughters, Rick and Karen, Andy and Catherine, and Jeff and Shannon; eight grandchildren Jordan and Sara, Taylor, Mills, Bowie, Ashley, Walker, and Clark; brother Charlie and wife Louise Bowie and their loving sons; brother and sister-in-law Ned and Dee Davis and their loving children; and many cousins and countless friends.
Nana’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Harlingen located at 402 East Jackson Street, Harlingen, Texas 78550, which will be preceded by a private gravesite service. The family invites you to join them for a reception immediately following the service in the Church’s Blume Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Harlingen or a charity of choice in her honor.
