F. Charles “Charlie” Guetzow

F Charles GuetzowF. Charles “Charlie” Guetzow, 87, made his transition on December 14, 2012 at Houston Hospice in Houston, Texas. He was born on June 9, 1925 in San Benito, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Emma R. Guetzow; his sister Lily and his brothers Faustino and Lawrence David Guetzow.

Charlie is survived by his wife Bonnie; son Karl Guetzow and daughter-in-law Jan of Missouri City; daughter Belinda LaTouche and son-in-law Pat of Kingwood; daughter Kathy “Kat” Fisher and son-in-law Tom of Tiki Island; daughter Lynette Gregg and son-in-law Dick of Seabrook; brother Gene Guetzow and sister-in-law Griselda of Brownsville; sister Catherine Corbello of Kerrville; grandchildren Mark, Erin, Trey, Heather, Kristien, Dustin, Damon, Devin, Chelsea, Vanessa; great-grandchildren Megan, Elena, Will, Hattie Grey, Ainsely, Jacksyn; his aunt Rebecca Guerrero of Houston; brother-in-law Ned Cadwell of Houston; sister-in-law Sally Myhre of Norway; mother-in-law Helen Sonnier of Deer Park; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Charlie grew up in San Benito and attended San Benito High School until 1942 when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly represented his country during World War II. He also served on the USS Rochester during the Korean War and served as a U.S. Navy recruiter during the Vietnam War.

One thing Charlie loved to do was dance. There was music both in his heart and in his feet. You could find him on the dance floor as soon as the music would start to play.

He also had a soft spot in his heart for animals. His dog “Jocko” was his faithful companion. He was at his side until the end.

His wife would like to thank her brother Ned Cadwell, Sister Sally Myhre, and neighbors Sue Blansett and Brandi Loyd for their many kindness throughout the last year.

Services will be held 1:30 p.m. on December 31, 2012 at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77030.

    Uncle Charlie, may you rest in Peace. Now you can join our grandmother and grandfather (Your parents) and your brothers and sister as they await your presence in Heaven. We Love You and will never forget you. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bonnie, Charlie and Belinda.
