After last week’s loss to the Weslaco East Wildcats, the San Benito Greyhounds faced the McAllen Bulldogs during Friday night’s home game in a must-win situation.

Unfortunately for the purple and gold, the ’Hounds (4-4) again found themselves on the losing end and, as a result, may have ended any hopes for a postseason berth.

San Benito running back Arturo Coronado was first to place points on the scoreboard after hitting paydirt from McAllen’s 39 yardline. After another quick touchdown, the ’Hounds were up 14-0 toward the end of the first quarter.

All appeared in hand.

That is until the McAllen Bulldogs (6-1), with 5 minutes left on the clock, nearly tied the game before the half at 14-13.

The ’Hounds never said quit, however, as wide receiver Manuel Sanchez scored and elevated the team’s lead to 21-13.

Garret Thomas, tight end for the Bulldogs, scored another touchdown and McAllen tied up the game soon after when Cole Yarto, wide receiver, successfully completed a two-point conversion.

The Bulldogs brought in the final touchdown for the night with 23 seconds left on the clock.

The final score was 29-28 in favor of the Bulldogs.

San Benito next travels to face the PSJA Bears Thursday on October 25. Kick-off is at 7:30 p.m.

coach gnantt should be fired, the only reason your team won a playoff game last year was because they didnt have to face the cardinals and you know it.take that away and gnatt hasnt won any playoff games . from all the hype this year starting the year ranked #1 in the valley and #15 in the state to not even making the playoffs is a huge dissapointment for a team that had so many starters back

To the Wife- I have been in your shoes and I know how it feels for the coaches to give up there family time to do what they love to do..It is crazy to hear the fans blame the coaches for this, coaches for that but it is a team effort and they are ONE…You will hear fans say-“I pay for my ticket and I can say what I want” well that is true but I bet you would not be able to deal with the radical fans telling YOU stuff about your coaching ability…BE A GREYHOUND SUPPORTER and if you can’t why do you go? GOOD LUCK TO THE GREYHOUNDS AND TO THE COACHING STAFF and TO THE WIFE–its hard to have to sit there and listen especially if your kids are around but get thick skin and if you can’t well say something back lol—I DID!!!

My husband is a coach at another school and I see how hard he works, how late he stays after school, the weekends we no don’t get to spend together and the list goes on. How dare you put blame on the coaches. This is team effort and that includes the players and coaches. I’m tired of the fans yelling at the coaches from the stands acting like they could do a better job. If you think the coaches are at fault then how about you go out and get a degree and then give up your family time for 4 months and we’ll see how you do out there.

Yes because making the playoffs and potentially beating a team they already beat Harlingen or Los Fresnos is truely embarrassing.
But don’t worry Mr. Cook its not going to happen just wanted to point out there is still a slight chance. I don’t expect it to happen though.
Hey SB can still spoil Weslacos season the last week of the season.
    GO HOUNDS!
