RIO HONDO – After last week’s 26-13 road win against the Raymondville Bearkats, things now seem to be looking up for the Bobcats.
With a record of 3-2, the ’Cats are set to face the Lyford Bulldogs in this Friday’s final non-conference game in Rio Hondo. The Bulldogs hold a record of 2-2 after last week’s 36-35 loss against Orange Grove.
Post last week’s win versus the Bearkats, Head Coach Rocky James of the Bobcats stated, “You wanna get better each week and I think we have, “They (Raymondville) are a very good football team and very well-coached. So we were happy to get a win out here tonight.”
Interestingly, Rio Hondo’s national rank has since moved +497 to 6822 and their state rank has moved +35 to 653 after last week’s victory.
Juan Puga, quarterback for Rio Hondo and this week’s San Benito News Player of the Week, accounted for over 200 yards on offense for the Bobcats against Raymondville, not to mention three touchdown tosses, one of which a 63-yarder to Isaiah Valladares and the other was for 17 yards to Matthew Zuniga. Also in Puga’s sights was Sergio Perez, the two of whom connected on a pass for another score.
The Bulldogs, however, are known for their high-potent offense as well. In fact, look for the Bulldogs to go to the air against Rio Hondo.
The Bobcats will go toe-to-toe with the Lyford Bulldogs in Rio Hondo on Friday, October 5. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
