With the bitter taste of their first loss of the season still in their mouth, the San Benito Greyhounds will be looking to take out their frustration Friday when they play host to a hot PSJA Memorial squad.
San Benito (2-1 over) must win this game to avoid an 0-2 record to open play in a tough District 31-5A.
After dropping their district opener by one point last week to the McAllen Memorial Mustangs, the Greyhounds will have to bounce back against another tough team in the Wolverines.
The San Benito defense has played nothing short of exceptional throughout the first three games of the season, allowing a total of only 23 points.
Led by senior linebacker Rene Chavez, Jr. and defensive end Adrian Zuniga, the defense has done a masterful job of keeping teams out of the endzone so far.
The stout defense will be tested once more this week when the Wolverines (3-0), who scored 62 points just last week, come into town hungry to continue their undefeated record.
“Well, PSJA Memorial is a tough team, they’re very talented” said Head Coach Spencer Gantt, “but I’m confident that our defense will match up fine and do their job.”
Gantt is also confident his offense can execute better this week despite a lack of scoring so far this season.
“We just have to execute the plays that are called and put more points up,” said Gantt.
The ’Hounds are still waiting on doctors to clear starting running back Arturo Coronado, who missed out on last week’s game. The addition of Coronado might be exactly what the Greyhounds need to kick start their offense.

This is the only game I will probably go watch only because the Greyhounds are now playing a team who is undefeated. After this game I’ll probabl wait to attend the playoffs following that RVG team who is getting the most out of thier efforts. I”ll go try to find a reserved seat on the PSJA side such as in many sold outs big games I’ll wait in line to get to the box office and request reserve seats only to be told sorry sir we are sold out . No more reserve seats? No sir. then I’ll ask the question in dismay if they are “all sold out”?. Again the reply will be yes sir! then I’ll answer with my famous words I only need one. Then the responce from the person selling the tickets will say Oh! we I have one seat over here is that ok? Duaaaa. It happens to me at every game all over the RGV unless the game is going to be sold out solid I try get get those tickets by ahead of time by going through the masses….
i really hope the receivers have been working on their hands!!! The Defense seems ready to week in and week out…..lets get this one Hounds! “Pride makes the difference!!”
