McALLEN – Coming off one of the biggest wins in recent memory, the San Benito Greyhounds are more than eager for their 31-5A district opener on Friday against the McAllen Memorial Mustangs.

Last week’s 7-3 victory over the Harlingen Cardinals has the ’Hounds confidence soaring as they begin their quest for a district title this week in McAllen.

San Benito is 2-0 and eying a perfect regular season for the first time since 2004, when they made it to the Alamodome on their way to a 12-1 record. “Our goal is to go undefeated and win a district title,” said Greyhound head coach Spencer Gantt. “It’s great to start the season with two victories, but our goals are still out there.”

  1. To early in the reason to know if the Greyhounds will travel the same road they did in 2004. 5-0 is a great start. 10-0 now the goal is out there. Some where out there is a team slowly working it’s skills and coaches watching film ready to call the right plays. Hoepfully Greyhounds have the right formula or chemistry within the team to take them pass the goal lines. Have fun. Is it Mcallen Memorial that has the no huddle offense?

Believe this will be the first time since 1995 the Hounds will face off with McAllen Memorial, where San Benito defeated them in the bi-district round of playoffs. Go Hounds Go!
