Professionals’ children allowed to enroll in pre-k

SBCISDThe first day of school comes around every August. Or does it?

When cuts were made to offset a $3 million budget shortfall, pre-kindergarten eligibility requirements in San Benito CISD were altered. Pre-k is not deemed obligatory to a student’s education, and in view of this substantial budget crisis, SBCISD Planner/Evaluator Ruben Franco said, “We can’t afford to subsidize the pre-k program anymore.”

In certain instances, five to be precise, eligible students might be considered for pre-k enrollment. These requirements include the following student scenarios: students whose English-language proficiency is limited; students who are homeless; students whose families are military; students in foster care (either previously or currently); and/or students who are economically “disadvantaged.”

What? Did this SBCISD Administration not look at all the options for these children? Why did these families have to wait until August to find out about “No School for Your Child”. No consideration at all for these children who just want an education. Whoever is making these decisions needs to make sure that there is a plan…. Plan, Plan, Plan!! That is what they should have learned in college when they got their fancy degrees. Have some sense SBCISD!!
By the way, I sure like the way that the top administrators “pass the buck and have someone else give this bad news”. We, as a community, pay these TOP Administrators a pretty penny and they cannot even talk to the citizens. ONLY IN SAN BENITO!!
