investigationThe Thursday termination of Janie Gonzalez, former San Benito CISD risk management director, has left district officials mum.

Gonzalez was fired for reasons which remain unknown as of presstime. When asked to comment, Superintendent of Schools Antonio G. Limón said, “It’s a personnel matter and I cannot discuss anything until after the board meets next Tuesday.”

Gonzalez reportedly drafted the now infamous letter that Board President Yliana G. Rodriguez signed in May. In the letter, Rodriguez announced plans to switch insurance agents “effective immediately.” Rodriguez penned her name to the document prepared by Gonzalez which proclaimed that the “sole agents handling all medical, dental and stoploss contracts” for San Benito CISD would now be Robert Champion, Jr. and Salazar Insurance Group.
