The ongoing pursuit for concerned citizens to refurbish Dolly Vinsant Memorial Hospital in hopes of restoring functionality and possibly establishing a veteran’s medical facility is proving to be a fight to the end.
However, in a situation losing hopefulness by the day, the question remains: Are the Save Dolly efforts – led by founder and reputable San Benito Rotarian Lionel Betancourt – to restore and rebuild a building with over six decades of community heritage in vain?
San Benito CISD Superintendent Antonio G. Limón informed, “There will be a meeting this week involving [Save Dolly activists and] the lawyers representing the City of San Benito, Cameron County, and San Benito CISD. Hopefully, something will be resolved.”
The city, county and school district are the trustees – essentially owners – of the property as over $500,000 in back taxes, accumulated by the previous owners, are owed to said taxing entities.
