RIO HONDO – Officials with the Cameron County Sheriff’s Department and Precinct 4 Cameron County Constable Robert Lopez’s Office have confirmed this morning that two bodies found in a home east of Rio Hondo are being investigated as a murder-suicide.
According to authorities with the constable’s office, law enforcement officials received a 911 call at approximately 9:41 p.m. on Thursday, August 2, from a man who said that he just shot and killed his girlfriend. Nothing else was said by the man in question, authorities said, as he terminated the call.
Deputies with the sheriff’s department, assisted by a Pct. 4 constable’s office deputy, responded to a home reportedly located at the corner of Villarreal and FM 106, just outside Rio Hondo near Las Yescas.
Authorities said deputies located the home by tracing the man’s call. Upon arrival, authorities said deputies found the door open and walked in to discover two bodies “which appeared to be a murder-suicide.”
Sheriff Omar Lucio said he was still gathering details on the crime as of 7:50 a.m. this morning but did confirm that a murder-suicide had in fact been committed. Lucio said he would have more details at 10 a.m. this morning.
The identities of the caller and the girlfriend he allegedly shot and killed have yet to be released as authorities said that next of kin may not have been notified yet.
