MOVED TO QUIT: Gomez credits faith, family for giving up smoking

He did it.

Frutoso Gomez, 58, has inspired his family by beating his cigarette addiction and losing over 40 pounds in an effort to improve his health.

And all the motivation that Gomez, chief appraiser at the Cameron County Appraisal District in San Benito, needed was his plans to see his grandchildren grow up.

It all started a couple years ago, when Gomez was outside a hotel in Arlington. He was smoking then, as usual. In fact, Gomez said he was up to a pack a day at the time.
