RIO HONDO – A man accused of attempting to gouge out his wife’s eye is behind bars on assault charges.
David Martinez, 29, was arrested Tuesday, June 26, by deputies with the Precinct 4 Cameron County Constable’s Office. According to Jose Zamorano, an investigator with the Constable’s office, deputies were called to a home located near FM 1847 in Rio Hondo in reference to the incident.
Police had responded to a call made late in the evening by a woman stating that Martinez had assaulted her after an argument erupted over a friend. Martinez is accused of punching her face and head several times before biting her arms and “pressing” his fingers into her right eye in an attempt to pull her eye out, Zamorano said.
