Waist-high grass, vandalism and graffiti currently marks the grounds of the old Dolly Vinsant Memorial Hospital, a once proud medical facility that has changed ownership multiple times since its doors closed in 2007.

But with the hospital scheduled for auction at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, San Benito residents have decided to take matters into their own hands should Dolly not be sold.

“If no one buys it, what next?” asked Lionel Betancourt, an esteemed member of the San Benito Rotary Club. “The power panels have been ripped out of the walls and the ceiling tiles are all over the floor. So my thought is if we can make it look nice and clean it up, maybe someone will want it.”
