Oscar Medrano of the San Benito CISD Board of Trustees has called for an investigation into the letter, signed by Board President Yliana G. Rodriguez, informing the district’s insurance carriers of immediate plans to switch insurance agents.

The letter, which Rodriguez retracted Friday, May 18, stated that, “effective immediately,” Robert Champion, Jr. and Salazar Insurance Group would be the “sole agents handling all medical, dental and stoploss contracts for the San Benito Consolidated School District” and for “handling all Ancillary/Voluntary contracts for the (SBCISD).”

The insurance agency currently serving the district is Bob Treviño Insurance Group.

I’m with Rodeo, what happened with the investigation? If Yliana Rodriguez has nothing to hide, then she needs to come clean. The taxpayers of San Benito deserve to know! I hope the other board members back up Mr. Medrano and demand answers! It”s the right thing to do! Will the San Benito News follow up on this story?

So what were the results of this investigation? Does anybody know? I wonder if Mrs. Rodriguez provided anything? I hope the San Benito News reports on this.

You’re worried about a ticket he owed for not having his dog leashed??? Talk about shaking my head in disgust. If the letter was not retracted the Distracted could had easily been sued for thousands of dollars for breaking a contract. I am sure once the Board President and her followers realized what may happen they decided to retract the letter 2 days later. Guess it took that long to figure out that it was a very bad idea. It was not on an Agenda so it was not voted. She decided on her own to take on the responsibility of choosing the new Insurance handlers who will be making thousands off the District without having any of the other elected Board Members vote.

Mr. Medrano, Please continue to speak up. The new board member last night who kept saying “I want an audit and I want so and so” is not looking out for the students nor the employees. Someone needs to tell that lady that there is no “i” in the word TEAM. To top it off, she was an educator in this district.

    Richard,
We will certainly pay the price for the decisions of the 5 board members (as Mr. Leal and Mr. Medrano have some sense to do the right thing). I heard that several board members do not pay taxes to the district. I wonder if that is true? The good tax paying citizens will pay for their poor decisions for the next two years. Their poor decisions already started.

I appears that Mr. Leal and Mr Medrano are the only board members left with common sense. I agree with Mr. Medrano that there should be an internal investigation into all of this. What the president did is worthy of removal from office in my opinion. I look forward in seeing what the findings will be. This should be a lesson to all the San Benito voters to becareful who you elect as your leaders. Like the saying goes “Be careful what you ask for”. When all set and done it will be the same voters who put them there who will pay the price out of their pockets. I wouldn’t be surprised if to see lawsuits filed soon. Good luck to the citizens of San Benito with all this fiasco.

Things needed to change and they did…the last two survivors are having to realize the situation ,the school board members had more power than the school itself… Mr. Lemon is and will always b a good educator and leader but he was thrown into the lions cage..in a short period of time..he serpast expectations by %100… He couldn’t control the actions of the old board members and for that he gets ridiculed…that’s not fair..and for medrano lol..that guy is something else, that’s all I got to say about that guy..but people just remember board members are voted in by the people..for the ones that are trying to make them look bad u got out voted…let’s give them a chance..that’s the problem with this community….negative when it don’t go their way..just part of the community…well I guess just two or three citizens of the community…lol…chance people give them a chance

First of all I want to say I voted against Mr. Oscar Medrano the very first time he ran for School Board, his last re-election I voted FOR Mr Medrano. The reason my family and I did so was because he was a VOICE for us parents who are involved with our kids and their school activities. When it comes to my kids, there education and organizations they take part in, THAT should effect any parent. My family has seen Mr Medrano in public and he is not hesitante to waive at you, shake your hand or even talk about your childs school status. He is geniuenly holding his postion for the students and faculty. He cares for the issues that effect our faculty and our students. Thats how a school board member should be!! A school board member should WANT to get more involved with our students and their accomplishments, attend games, attend choir shows, chess tournaments, school presentations etc. THAT is what a School Board member should be. The problem with our School Board is people holding seats are just puppets being told what to say by either their Daddy or by family members who actually have knowledge of issues but were not voted in by the city. Seriously, everyone knows the reason these people got voted in was NOT because they are best fit for the job but because it was a popularity contest. “Oh he is the son/ daughter of so and so?, pues yea she/he has my vote.” WE ,as parents, need to get involved especially with those that make decisions that affect our kids education!!! Ask yourself if these Board Members speak what they preach!!! Yliana, June, the Huertas speak so good on their political signs; “Experienced, Educated or my personal favorite For the kids,” yet when you ask to speak to them they are “No Comment” or “Unreachable” Give me a break! The people voted you all for a reason, SPEAK UP and face US, the parents that DO CARE about our students and staff!!! I can only imagine what decisions are being made without the publics knowledge.

Thank YOU, MR OSCAR MEDRANO for being a VOICE and an example of what TRUE LEADERSHIP should be!!

You will continue to have our familys vote!!

Hey guess who….is that all you have on Mr. Medrano?? Common on! We all know he lives in San Benito. Try something else!! As for the dog ticket thing, he paid the ticket and came clean…end of story. Give me a break! The reality is that Yliana must explain to the taxpayers how involved she is with these insurance vendors. I bet you a ticket to the Spurs game that Yliana, Huerta and the Cruz lady took money contributions from these people. For us that work for the district, you bet we will continue demanding answers!!! And yes…THE HEAT IS ON!! And if these ladies can’t handle the heat, GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN!!

Well said! They are trying to bring up a ticket for the dog thing because they know they have nothing on Medrano. Medrano is the only good thing left on the board. Don’t quit till you get to the bottom of this, Mr. Medrano. Our children need you.

Learn how to read and write. Now you’re trying to talk about Ms. Sanchez…you are just grasping at straws. Get a clue…this new board is only looking out for their own agenda, not for our children. Anyone who doesn’t see it, must be blind.

Great Job Mr. Medrano!! We the citizens of San Benito do deserve to know the truth. I really hope TEA gets involved and puts these board members that think they can do as they wish in their place!! The professional educated and hard working people of this city need to go out and vote in the next election!! cause I really don’t believe these new board members recieved any support from honest hard working citizens with good moral character!!

  1. Ok Mr.Medrano ,Let’s investigate you as well. Tell the people of San Benito that you leave in Brownsville. Maybe they should investigate as to why you were taken to a local store to get a money order for you to pay and not go to jail..What Favors did you do or what Bribes did you Offer !!!!Come on Medrano spill it all out…..The Heat Is On ……

Why is it that Yliana Rodriguez is never available for comment to the San Benito News? Always no comment, no comment. That really pisses me off!! Speak up!! You put yourself in this position not Mr. Medrano! What are you trying to hide?? Tell us what deals you made with these insurance guys. Tell us if they gave you money for your campaign. Tell us if you promised them the business? I give lots of credit to Mr. Medrano for having the guts in asking for an investigation. There are lots of red flags to this story! Yliana needs to come clean with the community and explain what went on. All my buddies from other cities are calling me on how is it possible that we re-elected this lady. OMG….what a mess!!!

Now we are starting to sound like Brownsville. Our School Board is starting to sound like a circus. I don’t think there was this much negative publicity until this woman took over as President. The position has gone to her head. Board President is nothing more then the moterator at the meetings. Doesn’t give her more power than other Board members and hope the new ones understand that.

Good for you Mr. Medrano! The president needs to be held accountable for her actions. I can’t believe that, as an elected official, she is never “available” for comment or she can’t be “reached”. She needs to step up and admit she made a complete bone head decision that put the employees’ insurance in jeopardy, as well as the district into possible litigation. Tons of money will be spent because her ego got in the way. She forgets that she is supposed to be on the board for the children and employees of the district and has instead focused on her little agenda. You would think that she would go about things the right way. No, instead she likes to throw around her “power”, and in the midst of it finds herself screwing up. What she needs to do is get back into the board classes, ESPECIALLY the Board President 101 class, and PAY ATTENTION this time! Oh, and bring Las Chicas Del Coro along with you, because it’s EMBARRASSING that TEA has asked for the district’s legal representation to “clarify” the roles and responsibilities of each board member. EMBARRASSING!
