San Benito High School junior Brenda Lopez ain’t shy. She just lets her feet do the talking.

On April 28, at a San Antonio state qualifying track competition, Brenda crossed the finish line with excitement and cheers, knowing what she has accomplished. Crossing in the one mile run at 5:11 and the two mile at 11:26, Brenda came in at second place on both, taking her to state.

Now known as the 17-year-old San Benito High School star runner, Brenda never believed that she would compete in such an event, let alone at a state level. “I didn’t like sports,” she said.
