As graduation looms, San Benito High School senior Gina Elizondo is focused on expanding her powerlifting career outside of high school as she competed at the National World Association of Benchers and Deadlifters this past weekend.

Elizondo, 18, stunned at the meet as she placed first in the benchpress with 242 pounds and first in the deadlift with a 413-pound lift.

Elizondo competed in hopes of impressing University of Houston-Downtown coaches as she aspires to take her powerlifting career to the collegiate level. Along with earning gold in her division, Elizondo garnered the best overall lifter in both portions of the competition and brought home a combined six medals.
