Authorities said they were told that the mother’s niece, identified as 18-year-old Amber Marie Rios, was supposed to be babysitting the kids.

According to an SBPD news release, the mother said she returned home to find that the sitter and two children were gone. It was stated in the release that when the mother reached Rios by phone and asked what happened, the babysitter said she visited her boyfriend’s home after the two boys fell asleep.

Rios then returned to the Colorado Street home while an officer found the two boys asleep with a blanket and pillow under a table outside the house.

San Benito police placed Rios under arrested and transported her to city jail. She was charged with three counts of abandoning or endangering a child and was arraigned by Municipal Judge Ben Yudesis. Her bond was set at $30,000.
