It has been five years since San Benito High School (SBHS) has been able to send a student to a state level UIL academic competition.
That all changed this year when senior Daniel Corona placed third in the Region 4 current events competition out of 60 participants located from the San Antonio area to Brownsville. This hasn’t been done since 1998.
Although he has made it this far, helping his teammates to place second overall and winning the district title for the second consecutive year, Daniel never thought he would enter such a competition.

Congratulations to Daniel. He was my student at Fred Booth Elementary and was always an outstanding student. Glad to see him doing well in high school and with his UIL competition.
