Monday evening’s thunderstorms that swept through the Rio Grande Valley left cities such as Rio Hondo flooded and other areas subject to tornadoes; but for Elvira and Isabel Cantu of San Benito, the storms struck a little too close to home.
Emphasis on the word, “struck.”
Elvira, 78, and her daughter Isabel, 57, live on the 500 block of South Bonham Street in San Benito, where they believe a tree that appeared to once tower over 50 feet in height was cut down by a single lightning strike Monday.
