A San Benito teacher was arrested Thursday for allegedly hindering the apprehension of her daughter and son-in-law, both of whom were accused of theft at a local retail store.

Detective Lupi Andrade of the San Benito Police Department (SBPD) reported Friday that longtime San Benito CISD educator Ida Garcia, currently a teacher at Miller Jordan Middle School, was arrested on two class “A” misdemeanor charges of hindering an apprehension or prosecution.

Andrade, accompanied by Det. Rogelio Banda, exited from Miller Jordan Thursday morning with Ida Garcia in handcuffs. The teacher, as she was being placed inside a police unit, called the allegations levied against her “ridiculous.”
