Ten-year-old Michael Dylan Thomas of San Benito has a love for chess, but he had never really kicked it up a notch until now.
Within his first few months of playing, he has become rated higher than most, earning himself a rating of 1117. He has competed in seven different events, and as a fourth grader has not only competed in elementary or middle school levels, but has played and defeated high school level players.
Michael has won 27 of his 37 matches, including a third place victory at the March Madness chess tournament against players with a rating of 1000. Recently, he was the first place victor in the Martin Elementary Tournament, where he faced the same advanced opponents.
