The Valley’s best couldn’t stop them, the Region’s best couldn’t hold them back, and not even the State’s best could keep them from capturing the State title.

The San Benito Lady ‘Hounds powerlifting team ended their season with the highest of possible achievements; a State championship in their hands. A first in San Benito Powerlifting history.

The Lady ‘Hounds have dominated the local scene all season and their trip to the State Meet wasn’t any different. The Lady ‘Hounds finished 18 points ahead of the second place finisher Weslaco as they sealed the State title with a total of 41 points.

“We began the year knowing we were the favorites since day one and that if we did what we had to do we could win and as the result shows not only did we win,we dominated,” said Coach Mike Evans.

Alex Marmolejo ended in second place in the 97 pound division. Marmolejo squatted 245 pounds, bench pressed 130 pounds, and deadlifted 250 pounds.

I just read an article on Yahoo about a new world record set by a 97 pound girl who squatted 210 pounds. Didn’t Alex Marmolejo, who weighs 97 pounds, just squat 245 pounds at the State Meet? If so, didn’t Alex just set a new world record?
