While driving through San Benito or the Harlingen area, one might witness Old Farts On Bikes… the bicycle group that is.
OFOB, as they are better known, is an all-men bicycle group from Fun ‘N Sun RV Resort in San Benito. Their age ranges from 65 to 84, and yet they still manage to ride up to 12 miles a day. Their name was thought up by a group member from Canada, and they have stuck with it since. “If they don’t like it,” said Chuck Rose, 66, leader of OFOB, “Then they don’t have to look at it.”
Chuck, like some people in the upper parts of the country, had no idea San Benito existed. “My wife and I discovered it by accident,” he said. “We were up in Pennsylvania and a couple stopped us and said that the best kept secret in the country is the Rio Grande Valley.”
