For 33 years, Sonia Weaver has thanked a close friend who introduced her to the man she’d marry, Gilbert Weaver.
Sonia, 51, recalls living next to a car lot owned by Gilbert’s brother, but never saw him around. “I knew he was a firefighter,” she said of her future husband. “I just had no idea what he looked like.”
Gilbert, 60, had just moved from Los Indios to San Benito during the 1970s, when he said it was required for paid firefighters to live within city limits. He, too, was unaware of his close proximity to Sonia.
