San Benito schools place at chess tourney

The San Benito High School chess team participated in a Region 8 chess tournament this past Saturday and Sunday held at Veterans Memorial Academy located in San Benito, where they won first place in their category.

The outstanding player of the team was junior Simon Vasquez III, who placed second overall. Others who placed were Brandon Flores with fourth, Karlos Ramos with fifth, and Kristin Ramos with eight place overall.

The high school was not the only campus to gain recognition in the top three chess teams of their category. Miller Jordan Middle School placed second with Miguel Vasquez in ninth overall, Jestin V. Sauceda with 11th, Tyler A. Juarez with 16th, and Aaron M. Soliz with 27th place overall.
