Members of the City of San Benito Parks and Recreation Board have gone on the defensive recently regarding plans to operate the San Benito Youth Baseball/Softball League (STYSS).
As reported in the Jan. 11 midweek edition of the News, Chairman Zeke Luna confirmed the board’s intentions to operate the league under the STYSS name, drawing the ire of current league president Frank Garza who asserted that the league was a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization recognized by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
“How can the city just use our name? Is this a hostile takeover?” Garza asked Wednesday after reading the article.

How difficult is it to call a meeting with the league and iron things out? Common people!…swallow your pride and start working together.. not against each other!!!!!
I agree with Mr. Garza. The city has no right in taking over or using the league’s name. All this is simply a take over that will split our entire community! Why not sit down with the officers of the league and work things out instead??? And Mr. Luna…please quit blaming long registration lines for this take over!! Try registering your kid for basketball or football with the Boys & Girls Club….It’s a total nightmare…not to mention very unorganized!! And Editor: Please tell us who serves on this phony Parks & Recreation Board??? We deserve to know!!! Keep fighting Mr. Garza….we are all behind you!!! CITY MEETING IS TUESDAY, JANUARY 17TH AT 5:30 p.m….Let’s all be there and fight for our league!!!!
