waterOwners and managers of local multi-family residences and apartment complexes have come forward with concerns regarding the City of San Benito’s fixed water fee ordinance approved by the City Commission in September.

The decision to impose a fee of $10.00 per unit came after weeks of researching by the city’s Utilities Board. Such research was conducted after it was discovered that many multi-unit housing complexes paid a fee for one or two meters when, in some cases, there could be as many as 80 tenants.

I agree with the concerned citizens of San Benito..I use to pay twenty dollars for my water bill for over twenty years, now its four times that number eighty at an average…The price goes up every time you turn your head….there is always a reason…The only problem here is how can we keep paying for these increases when our pay does not go up….everyone wants more money….

The solution is simple–other than police and firemen, you simply cut the budget “to the bone”–No clerks/assistants for department heads, no public information officer, reduce number of city inspectors, etc.

Ms. Claire Rowe, Owner and Manager of the Heather Apartments, the $10 fixed fee has no connection or relation to how much water your tenants consume.

It is a fixed fee paid by \everybody\ in the city who has a water connection. Why shouldn’t your tenants pay the same fixed fee?

Your arguments holds no water, pun intended!

The city does not charge for vacant apartments or lots in mobile home parks!
