BROWNSVILLE – Any time any team scores upwards of 50 points, you can bet there was some high-flying offensive fireworks on display.
That was the case Friday night when the Los Fresnos Falcons flew into Brownsville to take on the Rivera Raiders. The result? Falcons 52, Raiders 28.
The Raiders got their licks in, sure, but the Falcons more than compensated.
Still, Los Fresnos Head Coach Clint Finley was conservative in his commentary on the win, enthusiastic about the offensive prowess, yes, but reserved about the defense bending.
“We’re really happy with the way the offense played, happy with the way the defense played at times,” Finley said. “We did lose some momentum at some points, but coming out of the half we were able to refocus and take care of business.”
Take care of business they did.
The win puts the Falcons up in district standings to 3-2, one game behind Pace and San Benito and two games behind Weslaco, the current 32-5A leader and only other unbeaten team in the Valley other than Edcouch-Elsa, McAllen Memorial and Harlingen.
What say Finley?
“We don’t even know where we’re at, we just know we need to win the football games that are put in front of us,” he said. “We just want to get into the playoffs, which is a whole new season at that point.”
Next up in that journey is Pace, who the Falcons are set to play at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28 in Brownsville.
