A man of the people and for the people: This is how the family of the now late Juan B. Sanchez remembered the longtime Precinct 3 Cameron County Constable, who passed away Thursday at the age of 79.

Surrounded by his family and in the comforts of his San Benito home, Sanchez succumbed to an illness that had befallen him in March, according to his daughter, 46-year-old Sylvia Lopez.

His son, 54-year-old Jose Manuel Sanchez said that his father was a strong man who, in recent years, successfully fought lymphatic cancer and had long been in remission.
