RIO HONDO – Following a nail-biting loss on the road, the Rio Hondo Bobcats will be returning home this week as they play host to the Falfurrias Jersey Bulls.
After two consecutive losses on the road, the Bobcats (1-2) will be playing for more than just a win, but to regain the respect from those who doubt the ’Cats are still the team to beat in District 32-3A.
Rio Hondo’s first loss came at the hands of Edcouch-Elsa, which without a few questionable bad calls and one bad play by the ’Cats could have been won.
Last week’s game against Sinton was an even closer match. Even though the Bobcats had the lead for most of the game, a few bad plays allowed Sinton to come back and take the lead and eventually win the game due to one fatal bad play by the Bobcats.
Expect Rio Hondo to come out fired up and rolling both offensively and defensively, hoping to get rid of those small game-changing setbacks before district play begins. So, what better opponent to face at this time than the Jersey Bulls, who are coming off two big victories?
Last week Falfurrias took on Progreso, and allowed only one touchdown to be scored in the first quarter before beating the Red Ants 30-7. So it will be a suitable test for the Bobcat offense to get past the Bulls’ defense, but a test that Head Coach Rocky James and company know they can pass.
“They (Falfurrias) have gotten a lot better this year,” James said on the Jersey Bulls’ 2-1 record. “They are a much better team than they have been in the past.”
Kick-off will be at 7:30 p.m. at Bobcat Stadium in Rio Hondo.
