Arroyo Estates fireTwo San Benito area families remain displaced following as many unrelated fires that occurred this week.

At approximately 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, a fire was reported at a trailer home located in the Arroyo Estates subdivision between San Benito and Rio Hondo. Firefighters from the aforementioned municipalities extinguished the blaze in a matter of minutes.

Cameron County Emergency Management Coordinator Humberto Barrera said there were no injuries in the fire as a family of five managed to escape the smoke and flames unscathed. However, Barrera said approximately 45 percent of the home received significant damage.

As a result, 34-year-old Lucy Yzaguirre of Harlingen said that she has opened her home to her sister-in-law Melissa Rivera, the owner of the trailer, and her family – which includes her husband and three children.

Barrera, meanwhile, believes that while the fire may have been electrical it remains under investigation.

In an unrelated fire on Friday morning, a trailer home located on the 35000 block of FM 732 near La Paloma was completely destroyed. Barrera said no injuries were reported as the family that resided in the trailer was out of town at the time of the blaze. The San Benito Fire Department also responded to this incident while the county fire marshal investigates the cause.

Power was cut at both locations, according to Barrera.
