Special to the NEWS

WhiteWingsHARLINGEN – Carl Johnson supplied all of the WhiteWings offense with home runs in the third and 10th innings as the WhiteWings walked off winners against the Edinburg Roadrunners 2-1 on Sunday at Harlingen Field.

The WhiteWings (24-20) are now 14-4 against the Roadrunners (20-25) this season.

Johnson launched his third homerun of the season over the clubhouse beyond left field against Scott Wingo on the first pitch of the third to make it 1-0.

That was it against Wingo, who scattered six hits and one walk while striking out four in seven innings.

Luis Chirinos retired the first nine Roadrunners he faced. C.J. Beatty led off the fourth with a double, moved to third on a ground ball and scored on a ground ball to tie the game.

That was the only hit allowed by Chirinos, who struck out seven while walking three in five and one-third innings.

Former-WhiteWings Rene Cortez (0-2) came on in the 10th, and on the third pitch he threw, Johnson launched a no-doubter over the left field wall.

That made a winner of Mickey Cassidy (2-0), who retired all five batters he faced.

The WhiteWings welcome the San Angelo Colts to Harlingen Field on Guaranteed Win Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. If the WhiteWings don’t win, everyone in the ballpark receives a free ticket to the next home game. Gates open at 6:05 p.m.

The WhiteWings are hosting a free youth clinic at Harlingen Field at 5 p.m. with WhiteWings players and coaches. All participants will receive a free ticket to the game. Gates open at 4:45 p.m.
