CORPUS CHRISTI – One run was all it took for the San Benito Lady Greyhounds to erase decades of failure by every other softball team in the Valley.
With a score of 1-0, the Lady ‘Hounds (34-3) defeated the San Antonio Southwest Lady Dragons in the regional semifinals and now move on to the Elite 8. Awaiting San Benito will be San Antonio O’Connor, a squad that just kicked Edinburg out of the playoffs in a two-game sweep, thus making the Lady ‘Hounds the only Valley team left standing, not to mention the first ever to make it this far in the state playoffs.
The win sealed up a two-game sweep of the Lady Dragons after San Benito was victorious Friday evening with a 3-2 score, this with wonderful defense and another great game from Amber Jasso. Other game one heroes included Jackie Elizondo, Amanda Garza, Yesi Penablanca, KC Sanchez, and Giselle Tamayo.
