Third suspect in stabbing apprehended

policeThe third suspect involved in the stabbing of a San Benito man was arrested and arraigned on Wednesday morning.

According to Detective Art Flores of the San Benito Police Department, 20-year-old Jose Lazaro Ramos turned himself in to the San Benito Police Department at approximately 7 a.m. on Wednesday, May 11.

Police had been searching for Ramos after his alleged involvement in the stabbing of 21-year-old Michael Valdez on May, 5, late Thursday night in the parking lot of the American Best Value Inn which is located on the 2500 block of W. Business 77.

Ramos was arraigned by Judge Benjamin Yudesis and was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, a first degree felony, and his bond was set at $75,000. He has since been transferred to the Cameron County Jail.

Eighteen-year-old Gerardo Gallardo and 19-year-old Raul Martinez, Jr. were arrested last Friday for their alleged involvement in the stabbing.

Gallardo received a $25,000 bond, and Martinez, who allegedly stabbed Valdez, received a $750,000 bond.
