San Benito CISD School Board President and Pl. 6 incumbent Oscar Medrano addressed reports Tuesday that he was delinquent on county taxes.

According to 2009 and 2010 Cameron County tax records, Medrano owed $1,705.15 in delinquent taxes, penalties and interest on two properties. Medrano said taxes on one home are owed to a house that he is trying to sell after moving in with his mother and sister, acting as their provider. Medrano, who is up to date on his school taxes, paid $1,247 of the delinquent county taxes and plans on settling the remainder of the balance Wednesday.

“For me, this is based on the fact that I live with my mom and my sister. I’m the caregiver for them; I’ve lived with them for more than two and a half years already,” Medrano said. “Everything that’s mine belongs to my mother. Yes, there were some taxes that were due because the house is under negotiation for sale. I would absolutely not be running if there were any type of jurisdiction that would not allow me to run. I love what I do.”

Mr. Medrano I find it hard to believe a single word you say.
First of all, rule #1 – any time you try to sell property, you are required to have all the property taxes up to date, so how could you be negotiating to sell it?

Secondly- you stated the \taxes were delinquent due to leaving with your mother and sister for more than two and a half years\. However; according to the Cameron County Property Tax Division Records, you have been late paying your taxes since 2004. That is more than two and a half years, that is actually 6 years?

Mr. Medrano the fact remains the same, you have been delinquent paying your taxes for 6 years while you have been serving on the board. Being the SBCISD President requires leadership, that you do not poses. You have just helped me make my decision – My choice to be my voice is Ms. Huerta.
