Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio has confirmed the arrest of two more individuals who were allegedly involved in the murder of third grade Rio Hondo Intermediate teacher Sonia Perez.
Daniel Castaneda and Mark Daniel Garza were arrested and charged with capital murder on Saturday in connection with Perez’ death, Lucio reported.
Also charged on Saturday was Alfredo Castaneda, the father of Daniel Castaneda, for his alleged involvement in the murder. He was arrested on Tuesday, April 5.
This now brings the total number of men allegedly involved in the murder to six.
San Benito resident Sonia Perez was found dead at the age of 39 in her Chevrolet Astro Van with gunshot wounds to her head and right torso on March 31. Her body was found slumped over the steering wheel of her van, parked on Robles Road between San Benito and Harlingen, by a deputy with the Precinct 4 Cameron County Constable’s Office.
