The suspect of a drive-by shooting is behind bars after being arrested in San Benito on Saturday.
The incident started on Comino Angosto off of Pennsylvania Avenue early Saturday morning when men in a green Chevy Impala allegedly opened fire on a number of houses. The area where the shots occurred is located outside the city limits and was therefore initially handled by the Cameron County Sheriff’s Department.
“The way we got involved was because when the guy left the area, one of the neighbors took it upon himself to get in the vehicle and follow the suspect in an attempt to get the license plates or a description of the car, trying to get more information to help us catch this guy,” said San Benito Police Lieutenant Martin Morales.
One of the men in the vehicle was identified as 28-year-old Eduardo Herrera. According to Morales, a chase ensued and spilled into the San Benito city limits.
