Two sitting board members have filed for the San Benito CISD elections.
Pl. 5 Trustee Hector Leal and Pl. 7 Trustee Manuel “Meme” Gonzales, Jr. both filed for the upcoming elections on Tuesday. They now join incumbents Pl. 4 Trustee Joe G. Gonzalez and Pl. 6 President Oscar Medrano. No challengers have filed thus far.
Mayor Jack Garcia and former Mayor Joe H. Hernandez remain the only two candidates who have filed for the mayoral race in the City of San Benito elections. Tony Gonzales is still running unchallenged for reelection for Pl. 1 City Commissioner, and Pl. 2 incumbent Rene Villafranco is being challenged by Gavino Sotelo.
Nothing has changed in the Rio Hondo elections as of presstime. Former Rio Hondo Mayor Santiago Jim Saldaña, Jr. has challenge Pl. 5 incumbent Tomas Gomez for a seat on the Rio Hondo ISD School Board. Noe Alaniz is running for re-election for Pl. 1 as well as Manuel Flores, Jr. in Pl. 6 and Thomas Wiesman in Pl. 7. All three men are running unopposed as of presstime.
