Officials with the San Benito Youth Baseball/Softball League (SBYBSL) recently addressed a number of concerns regarding the quality of coaching and league fees, all of which brought forth by parents and coaches.
Several of whom expressed such concerns to the News on Friday, some spoke under a condition of anonymity while others, such as parent Ana Rodriguez and Nelda Aguilar, a Pinto coach, were not muted.
Rodriguez’s chief concern centered on what she deemed the league’s inability to recruit experienced coaches to field the teams, adding that the children are thus not benefiting from league play.
“We have some kids who are just starting and don’t even know where the bases are at, and then they’re coached by someone who doesn’t know how to. How can they expect to be competitive against other more experienced players who’re hitting the ball out of the park already and have proven coaches?” Rodriguez said.
Aguilar, who said she stepped up to plate as a coach out of necessity, concurred.

This is the first time my son has played and upon registration i asked the lady (Stepanie ) what the $40.00 registration fee would include, she said that it would provide them with a cap and Tshirt as part of their unform. The coach is asking for $30.00 for uniforms, the other half will be paid by a sponser. The he come out saying that the LEAGUE is requiring for all players to buy their own batting helmet. It is all adding up to a pretty penny, and i only have on child signed up….. what next i will have to pay to go see my own son play…… what a rip off
