The San Benito Greyhound tennis court has become somewhat of a second home for about 20 students, and 16-year-old Sierra Pizarro is one who has blossomed as a result.

Pizarro, a junior at San Benito High School, has been playing tennis since she was 10 years old and recently won her fourth singles title of the year along with first place at the 35th Annual Border Olympics in Laredo.

“My parents got me into it,” Pizarro said of playing tennis. “It was a summer camp they put me into. I thought it was fun.”

Her parents saw the talent their daughter had and encouraged her to pursue the sport of tennis.

“My family noticed how good I was getting and how I liked it, so they pushed me to keep going,” Pizarro said. “I’ve been playing for six years straight.”

Her enjoyment of the sport stems from multiple places.

“My favorite part would be the traveling and playing the different competitions,” Pizarro said.

To be a winner, Pizarro has learned that she must put time and work into her sport.
