Twenty-five wins and counting, that’s the number for the District 32-5A girls’ basketball champion San Benito Lady Greyhounds for the 2010-11 season.

What started with a lot of promise under a new head coach has now been set in stone as historic, and the best news is that it’s not over yet.

Head Coach Clarisse Arredondo and company rolled to a 13-1 district record on the way to a first-ever championship this season. Billed as a team to watch this year, there weren’t many that gave them a nod to win it all. Even Arredondo, who is very confident of this team, was shy on outright bold predictions.

“I knew they had the talent to win it,” she said, “but this was something that the girls were going to have to learn … a new system. Not to mention take on a new focus and do it while some good teams were ready to challenge for the district title and who are used to winning it.”
