You’d be hard pressed to find even one Dallas Cowboy star at this year’s San Benito Greyhounds Quarterback Club Football Banquet. Abandoning – at least for this year – a recent trend of inviting Big ‘D’ stars of yesteryear (and perhaps a few from the current roster), one may instead see a lot of navy blue and orange at the 2011 banquet when Bears right guard and Rio Hondo native Roberto Garza will be in attendance.

Club President Nora Ann Carney confirmed that Garza will be in San Benito on Sunday, March 6 as he’ll be the special guest speaker at the annual Greyhound banquet. The event is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and will be held inside the San Benito High School Gym.

According to Carney, Club Secretary Rosie Leal is credited with booking Garza after corresponding with his agent, Troy Asmus. Carney said, “She (Rosie) had to be persistent, because it was during the week of the NFC championship game, and then afterwards Robert (Garza) took a vacation after playing in the game. So Rosie had to wait until he got back from vacation which was Tuesday evening, and that’s when he gave her a good to go.”
