The San Benito Fire Department has reported that no calls were made during the New Year’s weekend regarding fireworks-related blazes; however, officials warn that residents should remain cautious during the dry season.
“I think we had a couple of minor calls, but they were all outside the city and to my knowledge none of them were due to fireworks,” said San Benito Fire Marshal Henry Lopez.
While people are urged to use caution during the dry conditions being experienced throughout the Valley, the city nor the county have yet to issue a burn ban of any type. “Usually if anybody puts a ban, it’s the county, and they haven’t yet,” said Lopez. “If we get any more moisture or anymore more rain they might just hold off. I know they had a red flag warning, but they have not really put out a burn ban.”
