Superintendent defends spending

By FRANCISCO E. JIMENEZ

SBCISD logoSan Benito CISD Superintendent of Schools Antonio G. Limón downplayed on Friday a recent report conducted by the Texas Comptroller’s office, which ranked the district’s spending index as “very high”.

Yet, according to Limón and an online source for the report, the website also indicates that the district shows “Strong Relative Progress”, whereas compared to another school district in the area received a “High” spending index rating and shows “Little Relative Progress”.

“(The information) is available on the website through TEA (Texas Education Agency), or through the Comptroller. The Comptroller’s office has it on their website,” said Limón referring to the Financial Allocation Study for Texas (FAST), which according to fastexas.org examines how “school districts and campuses spend their money – and how this spending translates into student achievement.”
