A sea of smiling faces filled Bobby Morrow Gymnasium located at Miller Jordan Middle School as hundreds participated in the annual Special Olympics Wednesday.

Special needs children from throughout the San Benito school district showed up to get active and play games with the help of volunteers and Miller Jordan cheerleaders and Cougarettes.

The event started with the participants from each school ceremoniously marching around the perimeter of the gymnasium with banners with their schools’ namesakes. Following the march, a student from Dr. Cash Elementary carried an artificial torch and lit the ceremonial cauldron.

The games then began with the children running from station to station where cheerleaders and Cougarettes helped them with their activities as well as their supervisors.
