This South Texas summer hasn’t just been another scorcher. According to the Texas Water Development Board’s Drought Information Summary, updated August 15, Southern Texas and the Lower Valley is experiencing “severe drought.”
While it is not uncommon for regions to issue water restrictions during times of drought, the process can be an inconvenience. City Manager Manuel Lara explained, “We buy water from the irrigation district.” When the irrigation district issues a water restriction, it is necessary to comply.
Lara said, “We have not been issued a water restriction at this point, but we are providing conservation information to residents of San Benito.”
