A man is fighting for his life after being run-down in an apparent hit-and-run Thursday.
Ruben Saldaña, 51, of San Benito was the victim of a hit-and-run incident on the evening of August 2 at the corner of S. Frontage Rd. and Hidalgo in San Benito.
Police received a call at approximately 9 p.m. informing them that Saldaña, a pedestrian who authorities said may have been walking on the sidewalk at the time of the accident, was hit by a car and appeared to be unconscious.
San Benito Police Department Assistant Operations Chief Michael Galvan said that Saldaña is currently in a coma and doctors do not anticipate him surviving.
At present, one witness has come forward and is cooperating with the SBPD to help further the investigation.
Galvan said, “Police are calling and searching businesses in the area in attempts to pull video surveillance.” Footage could lead to the apprehension of a suspect, Galvan noted.
Anyone with information relevant to this incident should call Galvan or Internal Affairs Detective Rogelio Banda Jr. at (956) 361-3880.
