The local group of teens from San Benito that started the project Keep Our Resacas Clean now plan on putting some of the trash they’ve picked up from the Heavin Resaca Trail to good use.
The group, led by Javier Perez, 17, meets on most days from 6 p.m. till sunset. Citing his recent employment, Perez said, “We try to meet as much as we can, but it’s hard.”
The idea started early this July when Perez was running down the Heavin Resaca Trail. The unsightly trash left him with an unsettling impression. “Maybe someone could do something, and I pictured myself picking up trash,” he said. “I thought, ‘Wow, that’d be really hard, but if I had help, it’d be easy.’”
