Case closed.

The recent capture of a La Feria man wanted in connection with a convenience store armed robbery ended months of searching by San Benito police.

Armando Vela, 18, was apprehended Saturday, July 28, after eluding authorities since March. Vela has since been wanted for his alleged role in the aggravated robbery of Jimmy’s store.

Detective Rogelio Banda of the San Benito Police Department said that Vela, the accused driver of the getaway car in the crime, allegedly helped conspire along with 17-year-old Claudia Trejo and 18-year-old Frank Rivas, the suspect who allegedly committed the actual robbery at gunpoint.

“He is just as guilty as the man with the semi-automatic weapon,” Banda said of Vela’s charges.
