A Brownsville man turned himself in to San Benito police on Monday for allegedly forging over $20,000 in checks.
Det. Rogelio Banda, Jr. of the San Benito Police Department said Ramiro H. Chavez of Brownsville was wanted by the city’s justice court on six counts of forgery. The 44-year-old Chavez walked into the police department early Monday morning at 8:42 a.m. to turn himself in, Banda said in a news release.
According to Banda the suspect claims he was given the checks to buy materials for his boss. The victim, his employer, reported the first incident on June 25 and claims that Chavez had taken the checkbook without consent.
